Is there a historical connection between astrology and gematria?

Astrology and gematria are two widely-used methods of divination commonly used throughout history and still used today. Both astrology and gematria involve the study of symbols and numerology, which makes a potential connection between them quite plausible. So, is there a historical connection between these two practices?

When researching the history of astrology and gematria, it is evident that the two have been intertwined for centuries. The practice of gematria, or 'number symbolism' as it is sometimes referred to, can be traced back to Babylonian mathematical principles and the use of letters to represent numbers. this technique was used in occult traditions for various practices such as divination and astrology.

The connection between astrology and gematria became more apparent during the Middle Ages when magical symbols began to be associated with certain celestial events or objects. These symbols were then assigned numerical values in order to track their power or influence when they appeared in divination readings. In other words, a set of coded messages were established through gematria that provided insight on how the stars affected an individual's life.

This same system of numerical values was applied to astrological chart-reading as well. By using these same concepts as an interpretive tool for astrological forecasts, one could gain further insight into a person's future outlook based on the planet/sign combinations they had while they were born under a certain zodiac sign(s). In some instances, different numerical values were given based on which sign governed a particular matter; this allowed for further customization of the reading resulting from stellar forces at work during certain months or times of year.
